Twitter versus facebook - a poem
Tweet tweet.
One hundred and forty characters, in which to share your thoughts.
Simple.
Succinct.
See something
Tweet about it,
Suddenly
It is shared across the world.
Status update
Everything from personal to professional to
Proof of how wonderful your friends are.
Photos of babies and rants about irresponsible dog owners
Virtual coffee mornings
With the occasional poke.
I love both twitter and facebook (especially since I can access them on my phone - helps me stay in touch with the world). The way I see it though, they aren't really in competition.
Twitter is where I share my thoughts.
Facebook is where I share my life.
Facebook is for the personal, for my close friends and family. Twitter is for everyone else. My tweets are there for all the world to see. My facebook profile is hidden behind walls of privacy settings.
Twitter is also linked to my professional identity. Me as a writer, a creative writing facilitator.
Facebook is personal. It's where I share my feelings about being a mum, among other things.
When I enter twitter, I am a slightly different person to the one that wanders around facebook.
Welcome to Joleen's! Where she lives in terms of the link between the mental and cyber spaces.
A mixture of serious thoughts on various issues, fun stuff and even seriously flippant posts. Also, occasionally a few poems or maybe if you're lucky a short story. It's all pretty random, really.
Joleen likes comments so please leave some! :)

A twitter fiction - Beetroot
I have no energy at all today. Busy week ahead and I feel like I've been hit by a bus, or possibly a train (being hit by a train would in fact be quite an impressive achievement on my part, since there aren't any in this part of the country). So blog entries may be few and far between this week, or you may get lucky if I decide to put a few short fiction pieces up! Here is one to start anyway. A dark twitterfic! :-)
Beetroot.
He added beetroot to the juicer, loving how it resembled blood. Not mere speculation. He had used that juicer to dispose of body parts.

Twitter fiction
One of my twitter stories was selected as the picfic of the week - click here to read it - it'll only take a few seconds, literally, as the story is less than 140 characters!
Always nice to get a little validation and if you're reading this because you got the link to the blog from picfic's twitter stream, welcome, thanks for stopping by and please have a read & comment!

Twitter stories
I only heard about these on Saturday. They're stories the length of a twitter post (tweet? I'm still pretty new to twitter) - 140 characters (or fewer).
Apparently they're gaining in popularity. I tried writing a few and submitted them. Here are a few publishers:
@tweeththemeat
@thaumatrope
@nanoed
Let's see if they like what I sent them! In the meantime, I have two more 3000 word essays to write. Probably between ten and twenty thousand characters going in to each of them, so I suppose the chance to be so concise and succinct is a welcome one! :)
